Namaste
Blessed Self,
Congratulations on having arrived at this special place in
your life. We know that there were many questions,
hesitations, doubts and encouragements along the way before
reaching this point and we welcome your arrival. The path
you have chosen involves more than physical exercise, and
results in health, happiness, and a life long journey of
bliss.
In
these times especially, there is no higher profession than
to be a Yoga teacher. It is also one of the most difficult
kinds of teaching, because a Yoga teacher has be their own
critic and correct their own practice. The art of Yoga is
entirely subjective and practical. Yoga teachers must know
the functioning of the body, the behaviors of their students
and how to react. They must be ready to help, protect and
safeguard the people who come to them for assistance.
Teachers must always be learning. They will learn from
their students, and they must have the humility to tell them
that they are still learning the art of Yoga. The tools you
will gain in this training will continue to be of value in
your life and to those you will meet and teach along the
way.
Yoga
means to yoke or to join. The practice of Yoga is to unite
the individual self with the divine Self or Atman. This
Yoga Teacher Training is about learning to let go. Learning
to let go of preconceptions about who and what we think we
are and to quiet the mind and connect with the silence
within.
You
have been asked to give up a lot for this training, but you
are also being given many other things to take their
place. The more you give to yourself and your practice,
the more you will receive during this training.
Although no one can take this journey with you, we look
forward to sharing your experiences as they arise and them
along the way.
In
loving service,
Shivakami (Lorrie) and Lal
The Essence of Yoga
When yoga was developed thousands of years ago, meditation was fundamental to yoga. As yoga moved to the West, the physical aspect of the practice, hatha yoga, became synonymous with yoga.
Attention, awareness and wisdom developed in meditation enhance the depth of an asana and pranayama practice. Similarly, the many benefits of the asana and pranayama
support meditation.
This weaving together of the asana and
meditation, the form and the formless create the foundation for the real
freedom that yoga offers.
Vastu Yoga Teacher Training School emphasizes safe, effective, and inspiring teaching methods which prepare you to be a confident and competent instructor. We offer excellent training in teaching skills, planning a class, communication skills, creating confidence, and posture corrections. The program also offers instruction and experience in how to live the yogic lifestyle -- enhancing personal health and centeredness through yoga.

Dear Lorrie & Lal, Thank you
so much for the opportunity to participate in the Vastu
Teacher Training. The first in Athens. What an honor and a
blessing! Your generosity will continue to be an
inspiration to me for the rest of my life. I am honored to
be able to “play it forward” by participating actively,
whole heartedly, and with the deepest gratitude in my
community, Athens and the world at large! I learned so much
about kindness, discipline, introspection, and PEACE from
the experiences you made available in the training and also
from each of your sweet spirits. I feel more committed than
ever to the path of yoga-the path of exploration, of
gratitude, of community engagement, of acceptance of LOVE.
I am so happy that you’ve decided to make Athens (one of)
your home(s).! This town has a lot of magic in store for
you, as I know you do for it!
With love, peace, gratitude,
(and a new found love for kapalabati!)

Tracie and I met through the yoga
teacher training at Vastu School of Yoga. In this course, we learned the
primary principles of Sivananda and how to let go. Entering the course, our
intention was to deepen our own personal practice rather than teach. But at the
completion of our course, we realized the need for yoga in our community, so we
decided to open a studio together. We appreciate Lorrie and Lal's dedication to
their students and the yoga community. They provided each student with a place
to begin and an opportunity for growth. Through the teacher training, we
deepened our understanding of yoga and created great bonds among fellow yogis
that will last a lifetime.

My experience in the Vastu
School of Yoga was amazing. I had no idea how much I would
learn and how deeply I would feel the experience. We delved
deeply into the history, writings and knowledge of love that
Yoga is. We also learned exactly how to teach and assist a
class. We were offered a lot of what might be called extra
credit which was Shivakami and Lal’s willingness Afor the
learning and teachings we received but it was done with love
and the sincerest desire to give us, the students everything
we wanted. When the training was over I could quite easily
teach a Sivinanda Yoga class. I was nervous but successful
and I now teach 4 classes a week and it is the most
important part of my weekly schedule. Recently several
students commented that they really liked my class and I
responded that I truly loved teaching and even joked that if
I had to, I would pay to teach Yoga. They thought that was
hilarious and I must say I am glad I don’t have to pay to
teach. But it is true that I get more than I give when I
teach, and I am truly honored to have been taught by
Shivakami and Lal of Vastu School of Yoga.

"My training with Lorrie
and Lal has changed my life on so many levels and in so many
ways that I never expected. I have gained so much strength
-- physically, mentally and spiritually. What I learned
during my 200-hour YTT will carry me throughout the rest of
my life. Lorrie and Lal are so easy to work with, and they
make you feel comfortable, letting you know that the
universe is unfolding exactly the way it's supposed to.
Discovering Vastu and the Sivananda tradition of yoga, for
me, was like returning home."

Vastu School of Yoga
showed up in my life just at the right time. Having done
yoga on and off since age 19 and more consistantly over the
last 10 years, their presence of traditional yoga was just
what I felt to be a soothing ride for my psyche as well as
my aging body. "Listen to your body" is a mantra all should
chant. Both Lorrie and Lal bring such appealing energies
and intelligence to the session that I always feel refreshed
and wanting more. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you

The Vastu Yoga Teacher
Training was a life-changing experience for me. At first I
was intimidated by the idea of giving up coffee, alcohol,
eggs, and other vices for 10 weeks but, like Lal said the
first day of the program, the more you give up the more you
gain. In the absence of these non-necesseties I was filled
with a sense of peace, joy, laughter, and community that has
carried me into a wonderful and fulfilling yoga teaching
practice. Participating in this training was the best
decision I made in 2009!
Namaste,
Leela (Rebecca Van Damm)
I have
practiced the physical aspect of yoga for many years... it
was not until this training that it became a way of life for
me. This training taught me more in two months than I
learned in three years. It helped me organize and solidify
free-floating ideas into a clear light, and it taught me
that yoga is the path I want to follow. This training has
been relevant and applicable to some aspect of life every
day, since. And the most important aspect: the realization
that I am everything. Everything I want or need to be. This
training, with no doctrines or heavy rules taught me the
discipline of that realization. I miss our training a
lot. I wish I could take it over.
