Course Requirements
Lifestyle
Students are requested to live a quiet, monastic-type life
style during their training.
Vegetarian Diet – Abstaining from meat, fish, eggs, onions,
garlic, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, non-prescription
(recreational) drugs.
Creating and Experience of a Quiet, Non-Stimulating
Environment: Abstention from radio, television, movies,
music other than quiet, spiritual music (our definition of
spiritual is not limited to yogic chanting. Any religious,
devotional, or peaceful instrumental music applies). Avoid
loud places and loud company.
Yoga Classes
It is important
to maintain a steady practice during your Yoga teacher
intensive. In order to create new and healthier samskaras
(habits/tendencies), at least 5 yoga classes should be
attended each week for 10 weeks.
Seminars
There are six weekend seminars during the intensive. Each
seminar is a separate module independent of any other.
Students should preregister for workshops. Any missed
workshops may be taken at a later date for an additional
registration fee.
Satsang/Kirtan
Attendance at weekend Satsang and Kirtan are required each
Sunday evening from 7:00pm-9:00pm during the training. We
will practice meditation, followed by Kirtan (devotional
chanting and singing) and Satsang which will include Yoga
Philosophy (The Bhagavad Gita, Pantanjali Yoga Sutras, and
Discourses from Swami Sivananda)
Karma Yoga
Karma Service is required during your yoga intensive. 1 ½
hours each week for 10 weeks of selfless service is
required. Assignments should be approved ahead of time. If
you should have difficulty in obtaining a service position,
we help you with placement in the community.
Anatomy & Physiology
We have 10 hours of yoga anatomy and physiology. These hours
will be completed during the seminar weekends in addition to
independent study assignments.

Summaries
A one-page summary for each weekend seminar (two total) are
due the immediately following Tuesday. We prefer to receive
these via
e-mail.
Please do not send homework as an attachment to your
email. Include the homework text within the
e-mail.
Examinations
During the Course: Before completing your 10 weeks, you must
make an appointment with Lorrie or Lal for an oral
examination over the following:
1.Yoga Mind and Body
3.Memorized
Yoga Class
4.Sivananda Companion to Yoga
The only written exam is the final examination. This will
be offered after all workshops have been completed and dates
will be announced. This exam is in essay form and is
comprehensive. The material will cover all lectures,
workshops, and required reading. It is highly suggested
that the student does not wait until the end of the course
to study for this exam. Review and regular studying should
be done from the very beginning of the course.
Internship
After completion of 10 week intensive and coursework, or at
the discretion of the school, each student will complete 12
hours of internship. This will be 1 class a week for 8
weeks, according to your schedule.
Clothing
Intensive students requested to wear traditional Sivananda
colors of yellow T-shirts and long white pants. Clothing
should be modest and loose fitting. The uniform is required
at all yoga classes, workshops and satsangs.
